Annual General Meeting 2013

Congratulations to the following members elected for our committee:

President: Margaret McGrath

We welcomed guests Councillors Rebekah Spelman and James Dooley. The discussion was focused on the future development of Frankston North.

Our next meeting is Sunday the 22nd of September at 3pm. Our monthly meetings are held at the Baptist Church, corner of Monterey Bld and Moreton St. Enter via the carpark. All local residents welcome.

August General Meeting

Unfortunately our grant application for a mural on the toilet block in Monterey Community park was unsuccessful. We will be looking at other grants that are available to local community groups for this project.

July General Meeting 2013

Discussion took place regarding:


·         Pride Day 16th of March 2014. The Commitee is well under way. Members are encouraged to volunteer and participate on the day. Recommendations of any local performers are welcome, contact Penny.

·         Electoral boundaries have changed.

·         Population growth has been addressed by Council by building more single dwelling housing in local areas including Frankston North. We would like to know more information about these developments in particular the height and closeness of the units. How much high density will be allowed in our area? What would be the maximum dwellings allowed on each block? How will they acquire the land?

·         More seating being looked into, Margaret has gotten a quote. Seating will need a back and arms.

·         Ask Rebecca to bring in plans for a safer service road, Ballarto/Frankston-Dandenong Road.

·         Guest speaker, Norma from The Baptist Church.

The Church and their involvement in the Community. Current programs for over 55’s, young families, baby boxes for new local Mum’s. Creche and family room available for Sunday services. Men’s breakfast, ladies afternoon teas, craft group, Christian education for adults, multicultural group. Also day trips are popular with the Community. Local groups are promoted in the monthly newsletter.

·         Community plans available for members to look at.

Pride Day committee meeting today at 1.45pm. They are looking for volunteers so come along if you're interested. Meeting at the Baptist Church, corner of Monterey and Moreton, enter through the car park.

June General Meeting

We had guest speakers from the Crest team at our meeting this month. The Crest team is based at Frankston Police station and is primarily a way for local Police to build rapport with the Community.
A higher Police presence in Frankston North has made local crime more detectable.
We also learnt of a new graffiti task force set up at Carrum Downs Police station. They are working with Council to reduce graffiti in the area.

Discussion also took place about the dumping of household rubbish in Monterey Community park. Council are aware of this problem and are working on catching the people responsible.
Council have applied for funding to put security cameras at both sets of shops in Frankston North.
Speed humps are also being looked at and the possibility of replacing the old ones with more efficient ones.
Council is looking at more seating for the area.
We are also looking at the ongoing issue of overgrown vegetation.

May General Meeting

Discussion took place regarding:
  • Dumping of rubbish in Monterey Park
  • Pride day will be held March 16th 2014, volunteers needed
  • People with green power boards, door knocking, seem suspicious
  • Hoon hotline is encouraged to be used by all members
  • Chopping down trees to make room for extensions at Frankston  Forest Lodge
Guest speakers, Compliance Officers F.C.C. Gary Landy and Trish Haidle.
  • Issues concerning Frankston North: hoon driving, graffiti, personal safety, CCTV cameras, dogs off leashes, bins not being put away, stolen (borrowed) shopping trolleys, healthy eating, elderly people and meeting their needs (eg. seating), building a relationship with the local Leader newspaper, social media, poor lighting at night, drop in centre.
Our next meeting will be held on Sunday 23rd of June, 2013, at the Baptist Church. Corner of Monterey Bvd and Moreton St. Enter via the car park. All residents welcome.

April General Meeting 2013

Discussion took place regarding:

  • The ongoing issue of the danger of crossing the service road (corner of Ballarto and Frankston-Dandenong Road)
  • We had a guest speaker, Peter Merett, Community Development Officer, Frankston City Council
  • Population growth in Frankston
  • Parking in Frankston
  • Big changes going on in Frankston in the next 18 months
  • Penny Marley has been nominated as new Secretary
  • A contact list of the Community group members has been approved
Our next meeting will be on the 26th of May at 3pm. Held at the Baptist Church, corner of Monterey/Moreton. All residents of Frankston North welcome.

March General Meeting

Discussion took place regarding:

There will be a local band playing this Friday the 29th at the park, they were hoping for FNCG support.
Entertainment at Pride day was a great success.
Second hand shops in the area and what are the rules?

Council have also agreed to put up a mirror and a speed hump on the service road, cormer of Ballarto and Frankston-Dandenong Road.

February Meeting

At our February meeting the following was discussed:

Pedestrian crossing safety on the service road, corner of Frankston-Dandenong Road and Ballarto Road.
Cleaning the toilet block at Monterey Community park in preparation for the mural to be painted.
A grant request has been submitted for our mural on the toilet block at Monterey Community park.
We need more public toilets in Frankston.
New council survey about inproving the area.
Any future plans for Saint Anthonys.
Pines Community shed may be opening Saturdays for women.
Pines patch community garden.

January General Meeting

General Business Discussed

The new '3200' magazine for Frankston North.

The importance of getting a Myki outley at the local postoffice.

The burnt out and vandalised house on Forest Drive. The Council are working on getting it demolished.

Childrens play equipment has been collected and stored from the old Council childcare centre.

Graffiti prevention at the toilet at Monterey Community park and the condition of other local toilets.

Our major project for the year, the carpark development next to the soccer club.

Safety hazard for pedestrians on the service road, corner of Ballarto and Frankston-Dandenong Road.

Councillor James Doolan briefly reported on Council financial shortfalls, which led to a discussion about local swimming pools.

Councillor Doolan outlined forthcoming Council neighbourhood character statement reviews. The group will look into this as it affects Frankston North.

Our next meeting will be held on Sunday the 24th of February at the Baptist church (corner of Monterey Boulevade and Moreton Street) at 3pm.
